    "Sophia,

We have returned home and we are going through our many pictures (around 700). We had a wonderful visit to your beautiful country and I must say that working with you and the tour guides made it even more special. When we return to that side of the world, we will be contacting you again. We still need to come to Guilin and see the beautiful sights that you see every day.

Angela was great. She is a pleasant and pretty young lady and she knows so much about the sights in Chengdu. My son really liked talking to her.

Peter was very good but his English can use some improvement. He was extremely patient with us and accommodated our needs wonderfully.

May was also very good and professional. It is obvious she knows her subject and she is a great sales person.

I look forward to using your services again. Thank you for everything and thank you for the gift. It is hanging on the wall in my home. I think of you every time I see it.

    Sincerely,

    Andersen "

    [Stone Forest]
The Stone Forest is in Lunan Yi Nationality Autonomous County, which is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Kunming and requires only a three-hour drive. It covers an area of 400 square kilometers (96,000 acres) and includes both large and small stone forests, as well as many other scenic spots. An old local saying says that 'If you have visited Kunming without seeing the Stone Forest, you have wasted your time.' Truly, the Stone Forest is one of the most important attractions of Yunnan.

    “Highly recommended when in Kunming”
    Reviewed June 20, 2012
The stone forest is amazing. It is perhaps not a place I would specifically travel to but when in Kunming, it is a must-see. We would've been quite lost without a guide since in a typically Chinese manner all maps are in Chinese or the English names of the sights have been translated differently in every map. We were very fortunate to spot a monkey when walking a path with no other tourists and that was definately the highlight of the trip!
    Ms. Susan.

    [Sani Ethnic Minority Village]
The Sani minority people are one group of the branches of the Yi. The Sani Minority Villages around the Stone Forest cluster many small Yi ethnic villages. These ancient ideologically isolated villages are famous for their mystical ancient traditions and beliefs. Their folk customs, together with the colorful embroidery and minority dances and the natural sceneries have become one spectacular scene in Kunming.

    [Yunnan Nationalities Village]
The Yunnan Nationalities Village (Yunnan Minzucun) is located on the northeastern shore of Dianchi Lake and is a good place to show visitors to Yunnan the cultural ways and traditions of the numerous ethnic groups in the province. In the Village compound, 25 different independent villages have been planned, but at present only about 20 have been constructed. In addition to these "ethnic villages", there are activities that take place such as a welcoming ceremony with performing White Elephants, the Dinosaur Island theme park area, a concert area for ethnic singing and dancing performances, as well as an Asian Elephant show in the Plaza of Ethnic Unity.

““Wonderful taste of cultures in China”
    Reviewed November 23, 2011
We thought this might be somewhat overdone, but it was really fun and educational. There was a bit of everything. The guides were really polite and helpful and no one seemed to be in a rush. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and interesting. There is a lot to see and learn. We especially like the Dai village and the Naxi village. The Miao village was also special. The representatives there shared some of their music. There was only one village I really didn't care for, but most of them were well done, and for someone who likes to sample new foods, like me, you can get quite a variety of tastes and cuisines at the different centers. The food that we had was great, like the flat bread with a sweet bean curd filling, or the rice filled bamboo. There's lots of things to buy as well, teas and the stuff that goes with tea drinking, jewelry, treats, clothes, and lots more. Plan for at least a whole morning or afternoon. It was well worth the visit.
    Ms. wokabaut.

[The Dragon Gate] & Overlook Dian Lake
“If you do not visit Western Hills, you haven't visited Kunming; if you do not come to Dragon Gate, you haven't been to Western Hills.” Being the outstanding scenic place in Western Hills, Dragon Gate is a big exquisite stone carved edifice. The stone paths, stone rooms, stone grottos, and stone Buddhist figures are all carved with excellent craftsmanship on a large natural rock. Like Sanqing Pavilion, Dragon Gate was also built on cliff. You can stand on the edge of the cliff holding the railing, looking downward to experience the steepness of the hill and enjoy the spectacle of Dianchi Lake.

    [Dali Ancient Town]
Dali Ancient Town is about 13km away from Xiaguan in Dali City and is one of Dali's Three Ancients-ancient city, ancient pagoda and ancient steles. History of Dali can be dates back to 1382 during the Ming Dynasty and it has been listed among the top historic cities of China. Unlike any other Chinese town, the traditional Bai ethnic folk houses give the town distinctive feel. The town's layout was uniform, with five main streets from south to north and eight main streets from east to west, while marketplaces were neatly arranged within the town, which has remained unchanged to this date. Besides the Bai houses, the houses with gray-green roof tiles, peculiar workshops, temples, schools and churches with antique flavor are scattered. Traditional marble artworks, like pencil vases, striped screen, and a variety of woven handicrafts of fine straw are laid chockablock on both sides of the street to be appreciated and purchased. Its grand city wall, traditional Bai houses and marvelous scenery have been attracted many visitors.

“Pretty and easy to walk around”
    Reviewed May 11, 2012
Dali turned out to be a welcomed change from kunming. Dali reminded me a little of Kathmandu but more orderly. The old city is lovely and easy to get around. There's a main building I the middle where people dance in the morning and evening for exercise. There's traveller food and drinks available on aptly named ' foreigner street' which is quite touristy. Local pancakes, freshly steamed food are cheap especially in the morning.
    Mr. globalgal.

    [Three Pagodas]
The Three Pagodas are an ensemble of three independent pagodas arranged on the corners of a equilateral triangle, near the town of Dali, Yunnan province, China, dating from the time of the Nanzhao kingdom and Kingdom of Dali. The Three Pagodas are located about 1.5 km (0.93 mi) north of scenic Dali, Yunnan province. They are at the east foot of the tenth peak of the massive Cangshan Mountains and face the west shore of the Erhai Lake of the ancient Dali town.

    “A very largecomplex”
    Reviewed June 26, 2012
The Three Pagodas area is extremely large and I suggest you just walk around the three pagoda portion which has lovely gardens. Two of the pagodas are very interesting becasue they lean something like the leaning tower of Pisa.
    Mr. philipmillermd.

[Erhai Lake] (Include Lake Cruise, Fisherman’s village, market, fisherman’s temple, etc)
This amazing lake lies next to the amazing historic sites in the Dali valley and the natural scenery and good hiking trails on Cangshan Mountain. The whole region is full of interesting and beautiful sites. The surrounding islands, temples and villages are worth visiting too. Golden Shuttle Island (Jinsuo Dao), and the nearby fishing community of Bai Minority do really deserve a visit with its attractive Bai culture and lifestyle, and because of the rare beauty of the lake and its surrounding scenery.

    “Interesting”
    Reviewed January 27, 2012
It was interesting to go all the way around Erhai Lake and see the activity that goes on there (fishing, farming). There is a really beautiful temple on its own island (I forget the name of it) on the lake. You can get a row boat out there. Got some great photos of this temple.
    Mr. Stefan

    [Xizhou Bai Ethnic Village]
With a picturesque landscape, Xizhou also has lots of places of historical interests. In particular, Bai ethnic buildings are unique in Chinese architectural history. Bai ethnic buildings are famous for their simple, unsophisticated and elegant architectural style and practical and generous functions.

“A good example of Bai VillageLife”
    Reviewed June 26, 2012
This village consists of typical Bai minority village life with open air market and regular small mom andpop type stores. Having a guide he brought us to a wonderful courtyard hiome to see how some of the villagers live. Very interesting. It ws raining that day which made it a little bit difficult to enjoy the walking but on a good weather day I highly recommend your seeing how people truly live and work.
    Mr. philipmillermd.

[Lijiang Ancient Town] ( Includes Square Street/Sifanghie, Mufu Palace, Lion Mountain)
a well-preserved old city of ethnic minorities with brilliant culture is a central town of the Lijiang Autonomous County of the Naxi Ethnic Minority in Yunnan Province. Located on the plateau which is 2,400 meters (7,874 feet) above the sea level and embraced by the tree-covered Lion Mountain in the west, Elephant and Golden Row Mountains in the north, vast fertile fields in the southeast and crystal clear water running through, the old town looks like a big jade ink slab, therefore got the alias the Town of Big Ink Slab (Dayanzhen).

    “Loved It”
    Reviewed June 10, 2012
Just loved walking around the maze of cobbled streets criss-crossed with canals. The wooden carved teahouses, the boarding private hotels dotted through the streets. Bargins with the stall holders were every where. The Naxi people make the most amazing icecream which they served us in crepe cones yummy.
    Mr. Killcare

[Black Dragon Pool Park & Museum of Naxi Dongba Culture]
Black Dragon Pool Park: also known as the Dragon Fountain Temple (Longquanguan). The pool is divided into two parts by a bridge, and although the water is connected, the two sides are different colors and the fish in either side never swim to the opposite part of the pool. Moreover, for hundreds of years, this wondrous pool has never dried up, even in drought years.

    [Jade Dragon Snow Mountain]
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Mountain) is the southernmost glacier in the Northern Hemisphere. The snow-covered and fog-enlaced mountain resembles a jade dragon lying in the clouds, hence, the name Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It is a famous scenic spot for brave traveler who is truly interested in exploring places that not totally are climbed by human beings. Sightseeing, mountaineering, skiing, exploration, scientific research and taking holiday are all available here. Besides, widespread legends and myths of the Naxi ethnic minority is also a reason to hear.

    “Spectacular View”
    Reviewed May 30, 2012
I love glaciers and I have seen glaciers in Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, and New Zealand. I find the view of the glaciers at Yulong mountain awesome and definitely worth a visit. There is a flight of stairs which allows people to climb higher up for a better view.
    Ms. Rosamund.

    [Yufeng Temple]
At the southern foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, 13 kilometers (nine miles) northwest away from the Old Town is a small lamasery named Yufeng Temple - one of the Scarlet Sect lamaseries of Lijiang. First built in 1756 during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, Yufeng Temple used to have nine courtyards, but only the gate tower, the main hall and two courtyards have remained after so many years' historical vicissitude. The beautiful sceneries around Yufeng Temple are special gifts from the deity. The temple backs onto a snow mountain and faces a meadow. It is surrounded by the flourishing forest and a never-dried river. All this makes it a really good place to visit.

    [Baisha Mural Paintings]
The picturing of the murals lasted for more than 300 years from the end of the Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty. The 500-year-old murals combine the culture of Han, Tibet and Naxi ethnic groups, reflecting the history of the area and the religious life of Tibetan Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism.

[First Bend of the Yangtze River]
A scenic and hiking area near Lijiang is the First Bend of the Yangtze River. It is only about 50 kilometers or 30 miles away from Lijiang. It is called the “first bend” because the river makes a 90 degree turn from south to east within a distance of 1 kilometer. The place was important militarily because big armies crossed the river at that point, and it was a place where Tibetans came down to trade with the people living in the area. It is an interesting scenic area, and there is hiking and other outdoor activities in the area.

    [Tiger Leaping Gorge]
Tiger Leaping Gorge is a scenic canyon on the Jinsha River, a primary tributary of the upper Yangtze River. It is located 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Lijiang City, Yunnan in southwestern China. It is part of the Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas World Heritage Site. Tiger Leaping Gorge is a contender for the world's deepest river canyon, depending on the exact definition used. The inhabitants of the gorge are primarily the indigenous Naxi people, who live in a handful of small hamlets. Their primary subsistence comes from grain production and foreign hikers(as well as Chinese).

    “Wow views and roaring water”
    Reviewed July 1, 2012 NEW
There are three levels of steps to reach before you get next to the water. A stone tiger carving is across the gorge. You can be carried down and up by two carriers. Staying on top or going to one level below still gives you a spectacular view.
    Mr. ExpatfromMN.

    [Shangri-La County]
Shangri-La is the "Eden in dream". Since it first appeared in British novelistJames Hilton's Lost Horizon in the 1939, it has been associated withthe mystique of a place which could not possibly exist here on Earth. In Tibetan,Shangri-La means the "sun and moon in heart", an ideal home only found in heaven. There the lofty and continuous snowy mountains, endless grasslands, steep andgrand gorges, azure lakes and the bucolic villages always leave a deep impressionon visitors.
Located at point where Tibet, Sichuan and Yunnan all meet, Shangri-La County is administered by Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. In the past, Shangri-La was called Zhongdian or "Jiantang" in Tibetan. In ancient times, it together with Batang (in Tibet) and Litang (in Sichuan) was the fiefdom of the three sons of a Tibetan King. In 2002, Zhongdian changed its name to Shangri-La.

    [Bitahai & Shudu Lake]
Bita Lake and Shudu Lake, located within 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) of each other are the two major attractions of Pudacuo National Park. The two lakes are recognized as ’The pearls on the Plateau’. ”Bita" means in Tibetan a place with a dense oak forest and "Bitahai" means a quiet lake. Bita Lake lies 30 kilometers east of Shangri-La, with an altitude of 3538 meters. It is 3 kilometers in length and 0.3 kilometers in breadth covering a water area of 159 hectares. Surrounded by mountains covered with ancient pines, oaks and rhododendrons, Bita Lake is just like an emerald in the heart of the mountain. Shudu Lake is located on the north part of the Park, and 36 kilometers northeast of Shangri-La. It is 2.8 kilometers from east to west and 0.7 kilometers from south to north, covering an area of 120 hectares. Boasting the largest fresh water lake on the Diqing plateau, Shudu Lake is surrounded by numerous kinds of trees and flowers with dark coniferous forest at its east and south bank, fir spruce and oak forest at its north bank circled by silver birth and kinds of flowers like azalea, anemone and primrose. Besides, the lake is also the home to many animals like Bears, deer and pheasants.

    [Gedan Songzanlin Monastery]
Gedan Songzanlin Monastery, also called Guihua Monastery, is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan province. It is 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from the seat of Shangri-La County. Construction began in 1679 and was completed in 1681. During the monasteries golden age over 3,000 monks lived and studied there. Built along the mountains with a magnificent facade, the monastery is a faithful imitation of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Covering an area of 33 hectares (82 acres), the monastery has solid walls and five gates. Two main lamaseries, Zhacang and Jikang, command the highest position in the architectural complex. As one of the largest lamaseries in the Kangzang (tri-province area of Tibet, Sichuan, and Yunnan) region, they are both Tibetan-style watchtowers and are surrounded by eight sub-lamaseries and the dormitories or the lamas.
