Use your pass to gain entry and discounts at the region's many hot springs, museums, galleries, gardens, temples and shrines.From Odawara Station board the Hakone Tozan for Togendai (via Hakone-Yumoto) and get off at Palace Hotel Hakone Mae (50 min). Your hotel has a volcanic outdoor onsen (hot spring) A perfect way to relax after a busy travel schedule.Hakone is Wedged between Mount Fuji and lzu Peninsula, encircled by forested mountains and deep ravines, extraordinary views (weather permitting) of Mount Fuji and the Japan Alps can be seen.Spend the remainder of the day exploring the many sights of this beautiful resort town.Day 6: Hakone / Mt. At Odawara Station board a bullet train for JR Nagoya Station. (2 hrs) Change trains at JR Nagoya Station and board the Limited Express (Wide View Express) Hida train to JR Takayama Station (2 hrs 20 min). This magnificent train journey through the Japan Alps may be one of the highlights of your trip to Japan.Hida Takayama is a traditional medieval town located in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture. It is possible to walk across the centre of Hida Takayama in about 20 minutes, and most of the attractions are concentrated in the old part of town, within minutes of each other. The Hida Hotel Plaza is a 5 minute walk from the station's main exit.Enjoy an afternoon stroll around this museum-like town boasting a number of attractions including a variety of small museums devoted to traditional crafts embodying the town's long-standing tradition of the fine craftsmanship. Visit the old private houses that lie in the area between Miyagawa River and the famously lush and picturesque Shiroyama Park. This quite residential area has shops selling traditional crafts and antiquesDay 8: Hida TakayamaTakayama Morning MarketIn the morning visit the Takayama Jinya Market and the Miyagawa Market. Located on the banks of the Miyagawa River these morning markets are open daily from 7am to noon. Here you will find people from nearby farms selling fresh produce and flowers.Return to JR Takayama Station where you can purchase a Hida-no-Sato (Hida Folk Village) discount ticket - 900 yen - (Hida-no-Sato Setto-Ken) which includes a return bus ride (10 minutes each way) and admission to the Hida Folk Village. Here you will find restorations of more than 30 typical old thatched-roofed (gassho-zukuri) houses, relocated here from the various villages around the Hida area. The site recreates the atmosphere and scenery of mountain villages of old in a beautiful mountain setting. Open 8:30am to 5:00pm.Day 9: Hida Takayama - HiroshimaHiroshima CastleCheck out and board the Limited Express (Wide View) Hida train from JR Takayama Station to JR Nagoya Station (2.5 hrs). Change trains within the station and board a bullet train to Hiroshima.(3 hrs) You may need to swap trains at Shin Osaka on the way.From JR Hiroshima Station your accommodation at the New Hiroden Hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Central Exit.Hiroshima was a city left in ashes after the Atomic bomb was dropped. Hiroshima has made a remarkable recovery and has been rebuilt as a modern thriving city. The area which felt the full force of the bomb has been transformed into a Peace Memorial Park with gardens of great beauty and nearly forty memorials to the victims of the atomic explosion. Hiroshima is now known as the "International City of Peace" dedicated to a total ban on the use of Atomic weapons. A visit to the Peace Memorial Park should be included in every Hiroshima itinerary. To visit the Park, board a tram in front of Hiroshima Station and get off at Genbaku Domu-Mae (Atomic Bomb Dome) stop (cost 150 yen - 15 min.).Using your tour map, visit a number of exhibits including the Atomic Bomb Dome: Positioned below the epicentre, this skeleton of melted steel and concrete has been left as it was after the bomb was dropped. Having been rebuilt in all its glory, it is now used to exhibit historic artefacts from Japan's feudal past.Day 10: HiroshimaMiyajima IslandEnjoy a day of exploration upon the sacred earth of Miyajima Island (Shrine Island).From Hiroshima Station board the JR Sanyo Line to Miyajimaguchi Station (26 min). Using your Japan Rail Passes board the JR Ferry to Miyajima Island.The entire 30 sq. km. island is designated by the Japanese government as a Special Historic Site and Special Place of Scenic Beauty. The must see Itsukushima Shrine, built in the sixth century, is dedicated to the maritime guardian goddesses. The shrine buildings are connected by corridors which stretch out over the water giving it the appearance of floating on the sea at high tide. The giant red wooden O-Torii (Grand Gate) is the most noted symbol of Miyajima.Be sure to take the 1.7km ropeway (JPY1800 round trip) to Mount Misen's summit to absorb one of the three most spectacular panoramic views in Japan. Keep your eye on the summit's mischievous monkeys before descending on a peaceful walk through the ancient forest.Return to Hiroshima early evening to feast upon the city's popular delicacy Okonomiyaki - a savoury layered noodle pancake which is cooked on an iron hotplate at your table. The locals are very proud of their contribution to Japanese cuisine!Day 11: Hiroshima - KyotoKiyomizu TempleCheck out of the New Hiroden Hotel and board a bullet train to Kyoto Station. (2hrs) You may need to swap trains at Shin Osaka on the way.Your accommodation at the New Miyako Hotel is a 2 minute walk from Kyoto Station.After check in, take time to explore the Sky Plaza Observation Deck on top of Kyoto Station for a free panoramic view of the surrounding area of Kyoto. This modern station also contains a large shopping mall, department store, specialty shops and restaurants.Day 12: KyotoKinkakuji TempleCommence your exploration of the ancient city of Kyoto. At 08:45am, you will be collected from your hotel's lobby to join the Kyoto Morning Tour. Your English-speaking local guide will take you by bus to Nijo Castle, the Golden Pavilion, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace (on Sat., Sun. & national holidays, visit Higashi Honganji Temple instead). Gion is the one place in Japan where you may see Maiko or Geisha scampering between appointments. As darkness falls watch the traditional lanterns gradually come to life and you wander down tiny alleys housing a variety of restuarants offering tempting cuisine.Day 13: Kyoto - Nara - KyotoTodaiji TempleA full day of sightseeing awaits you in Nara. Here, you can find peace of mind and natural beauty as you uncover the many treasures of Japan's former capital (710-784AD).From JR Kyoto Station board a JR Nara Line limited express train for Nara (45 min). All sightseeing is within comfortable walking distance of Nara Station. From the station through the town towards Nara Park.Should the weather be kind you may like to have your lunch in the picturesque Nara Park amongst the many tame deer which roam the area. At the end of the park is the impressive World Heritage listed cultural assets Todaiji Temple - the world's largest wooden building housing the Giant Buddha that soars 16 metres in height. Return to Nara Station via Nara-machi, an old precinct full of traditional houses, shops and tearooms in calm and pleasant surroundings, giving an excellent contrast to the great temples and old burial mounds.Day 14: Kyoto - AirportBullet trainCheck out of the New Miyako Hotel and leave your luggage in storage at the porter's desk for your later return.Spend your last morning in Kyoto completing any final sightseeing or shopping.For those departing from Tokyo, board a bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo Station. O/N Kathmandu.If you do not have your Nepalese visa – you can apply at the border (normally US$25 for single entry visa valid for 15 days). You will need 1 passport photo. Day 2 - Kathmandu (B/D)TourKathmanduCity: Durbar Square complex of palaces, courtyards and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries and used to be the seat of ancient Malla kings of Kathmandu.An intriguing piece here is the 17th century stone inscription set into the wall of the palace with writings in 15 languages.The Durbar Square is a protected UNESCO world heritage site. There are also museums inside the palace building.Swayambhunath: Located approx 4km from Kathmandu, this Buddhist stupa is said to be 2000 years old. The stupa, which forms the main structure, is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. Painted on the 4-sided base of the spire are the all-seeing eyes of Lord Buddha.Pashupatinath:The city is situated 5 km east of Kathmandu city.The Temple is one of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world. The richly-ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga, or phallic symbol, of Lord Shiva.Chronicles indicate the temple’s existence prior to 400 AD.Devotees can be seen taking ritual dips in the holy BagmatiRiver flowing beside the temple. Visitors will be permitted to view the temple from the east bank of BagmatiRiver, as entrance to the temple is strictly forbidden to all non-Hindus.Next we visit the Boudhananth Stupa (approx. 8 km east of Kathmandu), which is the largest stupa in the valley. It stands with 4 pairs of eyes in the 4 cardinal directions keeping watch for righteous behavior and human prosperity. The stupa is built on an octagonal base inset with prayer wheels.Evening: We have a Nepali cultural program show and dinner (details to be announced later)O/N KathmanduDay 3 – Kathmandu (B)Patan: 5 km away from Kathmandu city and known as “the city of fine arts”. You will see Durbar Square, and a collection of bronzes, KrishnaTemple built by King Malla, Hiranya Varna Mahavihar and MahaboudhaTemple. We will also make a stop at the Tibetan Refugee Camp and HandicraftCenter where you will witness hand weaving of carpets and molding of metal statues.Bungamati: A typical Newari village (11 km south of Kathmandu) founded in 7th century AD. “God of Rain” is worshipped here equally by Hindus and Buddhists.Khokana: Small Newari village on the southern flank of KathmanduValley. City was established in 7th century AD by the Licchhavi rulers of Nepal. This unique village is quite removed from modern civilization.Day 4 – Fly to Chitwan (B/L/D)Today you will be transferred to airport for flight to Chitwan.ChitwanNational Park means “heart of the jungle” and is one of the finest national parks in Asia.It is known for a diverse and dense wildlife and opportunities to observe animals in their natural habitat from excellent lodges.O/N ChitwanDay 5 – Chitwan (B/L/D)A whole day filled with jungle activities.O/N ChitwanDay 6 – Drive to Pokhara (B)Pokhara has mesmerized visitors from all over the world with the rare combinations of snow-clad peaks and snow fed lakes and rivers. The serenity of the PhewaLake accompanied by the grandeur of Machhapuchhre creates an ambience of peace and magic. Pokhara is the home for dense forests, gushing rivers, lucid lakes and the world famous view of the Himalayas.O/N PokharaDay 7 – Pokhara (B) Sarangkot is 9 km NW of Pokhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal. Conveniently perched high on the top of a ridge, the serene hill resort offers the spectacular panorama of the entire Annapurna range stretching from east to west and the un-spoilt rural settlements just below those towering peaks. Viewing 700m down from the top of Sarangkot you can beautiful sights of the PokharaValley and PhewaLake.Davis Fall: Witness a unique waterfall that lies 2 km from central PokharaCity. The water fall directly goes into a deep and narrow canal. It is believed that this deadly waterfall took the life of a tourist named David, who fell down into the canal and was never found, and hence the name: “Davis Water Fall”.GuptesworMahadevCave: Gupteshwor Mahadev cave is one of the longest caves in Nepal. On the way to cave, there are shining stones seen everywhere and in the temple is big stone that looks like snake's head and tortoise which is considered to be the image of the Lord Shiva. Second part is very beautiful and you see shining stones and different types of rocks like bee hives.BindebashiniTemple: This is one of the oldest temples in Pokhara. Legend says that when Pokhara was a part of KaskiKingdom, the main deity of the temple, Goddess Durga, was brought from India. The temple is in the area of the Bazaar; hence, a journey of the old bazaar will be combined with a visit to the temple.The Fewa (or Phewa) Lake 1.5 km long is the second largest lake in Nepal and offers an excellent view of the mountains and their reflections on the lake. You will also enjoy a 1-hr boat ride on the lake.O/N Pokhara.Day 8 – Flight transfer back to Kathmandu (B)O/N KathmanduDay 9–transfer to airport for international flight home(B)
