Aizu

Aizu-Wakamatsu is a castle town in the interior of Fukushima Prefecture which is known for its award-winning sake and its samurai tradition. It lies in a beautiful valley, beside onsen, castle, and well-preserved traditional townscapes, lacquerware has reputation here. Hiking and skiing opportunities and scenic beauty can be enjoyed in the city's natural surroundings, due to mountains around here, and it makes the Mount Banda regional landmark.

Ouchijuku

Ouchijuku is a traditional Edo townscape known for its noodles. It is a former post town along the Aizu-Nishi Kaido trade route. The unpaved main street is lined by thick thatched roof buildings, which house a variety of shops, restaurants and minshuku (small traditional Japanese inns). Soba noodles and locally caught char fish roasted on sticks are popular specialties.

Sazae-dō

Sazaedo is a weird and wonderful hidden gem in a Buddhist temple complex. Built in 1796,the 16.5m-highhexagonal wooden structure houses 33 statues of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. It is the only thing in the world as a wooden building with a double spiral structure.

Isasumi Shrine

Isasumi Shrine is known as a great spot for viewing beautiful irises. In spring, the shrine grounds become decorated with the blossoms of the most prized cherry trees in Aizu. It is said that this tree (Usuzumi Sakura), has been the sacred tree since it was brought down from Mt. Mikagura-dake.

Tsuruga Castle

Tsuruga Castle, also referred to as Wakamatsu Castle, is surrounded by Tsuruga Castle Park, which is rather impressive. The park has well tended lawns and cherry trees, which are particularly attractive when they are in bloom around mid April. The surrounding moat and stone walls, which previously served defensive purposes, now contribute to the pleasant atmosphere of the park.

Lake Inawashiro

Japan's third-largest freshwater lake, Lake Inawashiro is situated in Bandai Asahi National Park. It is also known as the “Heavenly Mirror Lake” . There are also a wide range of scenic spots from where visitors can take photographs and soak in the view.

Higashiyama Onsen Village

Higashiyama Onsen, Aizuwakamatsu City’s retreat area, was established over 1,300 years ago.There are ryusan-ensen, or sodium-sulphate hot springs. Higashiyama Onsen is recognized as a historical onsen village, and is listed among the top three onsen towns of old Tohoku.

Iimori Hill

Mt. Iimori overlooks much of Aizu, including a clear view of Tsuruga Castle . It is an important site for the Aizu people because this is the place where 19 young men of the Byakkotai (White Tiger Brigade) committed ritual suicide during the Boshin Civil War in 1868.

Suehiro Sake Brewery

Suehiro Sake Brewery is one of the largest and most famous sake producers in the Tohoku Region. Founded in 1850, it has been a family owned business for eight generations. Suehiro's sake is famous throughout Japan and annually wins domestic and international awards.

Fukushima Prefectural Museum

The Fukushima Prefectural Museum in Aizu has an extensive permanent exhibition that illustrates Japan's entire history, stretching from archaeological finds from the Jomon Period (300 BC) to artifacts of daily life in the 1950s.

Oyakuen Garden

Oyakuen's name was derived from the fact that various medicinal plants have been cultivated here. It is a pleasant Japanese landscape garden with pond where visitors to Aizu can go for a quiet stroll. Oyakuen can be translated as
