Kamakura

Kamakura is a coastal town in Kanagawa Prefecture, less than an hour south of Tokyo. Although Kamakura proper is rather small, but it is a very popular tourist destination. It is often described in history books as a former de facto capital of Japan as the seat of the Shogunate and of the Regency during the Kamakura Period. Sometimes called the Kyoto of Eastern Japan, offers many historically significant Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines, some of them, like Sugimoto-dera, over 1,200 years old. In addition, Kamakura's sand beaches attract large crowds during the summer months.

Kamakura Komachi Dori Shopping Area

Kamakura Komachi-dori Street is a peculiar strip of modernity in the center of an ancient city, where trendy boutiques, gourmet cuisine, and a timeless ambience rub shoulders.

Yuigahama Beach

Yuigamahama Beach is a sandy beach within Kamakura City that faces toward Sagami Bay. It has been beloved as a swimming spot ever since the Meiji era (1868~1912) and today it is commonly visited by families and surfers.

Gion-yama Hiking Trail

The course goes to the small hill called Gion-yama close to Kamakura station. The hill is very low, but on the top of it you can see a fine view of Kamakura beach (Yuigahama). The short trail starts from the hill and at the last part of the trail there is the histrical site, where the last ruler of Kamakura governmnet committed suicide in 14th century. On the course you can visit some temples and shrines. The last main place of the course is Tsurugaoka Hchiman-gu, which is the most famous and large shrine in Kamakura.

Zuisenji

(The garden of Zuisenji Temple was laid out by Muso-Kokushi, founder of the temple, in a valley called Momijigayatsu in 1327.

Kamakura Koko Mae Station [鎌倉高校前駅] is an small seaside station in mountainous residential area and its name comes from "Kamakura High School" near here. However, even here is not a sightseeing spot, not a few people visit the station everyday, not only countrywide of Japan but also worldwide. Because here is the place that appears on many TV dramas, movies, comics and animes as a location of the stories.
