Naruto
Naruto is the northeastern most city on Shikoku Island, famous for its incredible often huge whirlpools that a natural phenomenon where the tide swirls violently on the surface, up to 20 meters across. These can be seen in the Strait of Naruto underneath the Onaruto Bridge connecting Tokushima to Awaji Island. It is also the starting point of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, which leads around the island to visit 88 temples across Shikoku associated with the famous Buddhist monk, Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism.
Ryozenji Temple
It is the first temple along the Shikoku Pilgrimage, a journey to 88 temples on Shikoku that are associated with Kobo Daishi, the founder of Shingon Buddhism. The pilgrimage, which takes about two months on foot, completely circumnavigates Shikoku, traversing all four prefectures on the island.
Otsuka Museum of Art
The Otsuka Museum of Art was built in Naruto Park, It is the largest museum in Japan, featuring life-size reproductions of virtually every representative masterpiece of Western art from antiquity to the 20th century including works by Michelangelo, El Greco, Goya, Monet and Picasso.
Uzu-no-michi Viewing Walkway
For an intriguing bird's-eye view of the whirlpools, you can walk out along this breezy 450m-long walkway hanging underneath the Naruto Bridge, which puts you 42m directly above the action. There is an observation gallery with glass floors through which you can gaze down at the whirlpools.
Oasahiko Shrine
In the middle of the shrine compound is a massive Camphor tree over a thousand years old, surrounded by the usual cluster of shrine buildings and statues. Oasahiko is a nice, quiet, wooded oasis among the suburbs of Bando.
The Naruto German House
The German House was built as a gesture of goodwill, and houses an excellent museum on the lives of the Bando Camp prisoners. A variety of models and photographs are on display with descriptions in Japanese, German and English.
Onaruto bridge
The Onaruto Bridge is a suspension bridge on the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway connecting Minamiawaji, Hyogo on Awaji Island with Naruto, Tokushima on Oge Island. Completed in 1985.
